IEC (Import Export Code) is required by anyone who is looking to kick-start his/her import/export business in the country. It is issued by the DGFT (Director General of Foreign Trade). IEC is a 10-digit code which has a lifetime validity. Predominantly importers merchant cannot import goods without the Import Export Code and similarly, the exporter merchant cannot avail benefits from DGFT for the export scheme, etc. without IEC.

Process:
- TReDS involves three participants MSME Supplier, Corporate Buyer and Financier.
- The invoice is uploaded by either buyer or supplier is approved by Other Party
- The financiers on the platform start to bid on the invoice.

- The discounted amount is credited in its account in T+1 day, where T is the day of acceptance.
MSME registration is also called Udyam registration. The entities that fulfil the MSME classification can apply for MSME registration. It is not mandatory for MSMEs to obtain this registration, but it is beneficial to get one’s business registered.

Eligibility Criteria for NSIC
- All micro-enterprises in manufacturing with investments up to Rs.25 lakh and those in the service sector with investments up to Rs.10 lakh.
- Small industries with investment in plant and machinery up to Rs.5 crore or service sector up to Rs.2 crore.
- Any enterprise holding valid MSME certificates or has completed a year of business.
- For business ventures not completing one year of commencement, NSIC registration is possible under the Single Point registration scheme.
